Developing Staff at Mount Tamar

“Every teacher needs to improve, not because they are not good enough, but because they can be even better.” - Dylan Wiliam.

We believe this is true of all of our staff, not just our teaching team. CPD has the potential to raise the bar and close the gap in pupil attainment.

Our CPD programme is planned not only to get our new staff up to speed and working at a very high level quickly, but also to deepen and further the knowledge of our existing staff as well as reigniting the passion that got them into education in the first place.

We aim to constantly provide opportunities for staff to collaborate and share their expertise with others both in and outside of departments. We hope to provide both support and challenge to our staff and, like we do in our curriculum; strive for personalisation in our CPD programmes. All staff participate in a planned programme of CPD every Friday afternoon.  Our core purpose is to deliver effective and appropriate training. We believe our CPD is effective for staff development as it builds on existing skills and is based not only on what we think effective teaching and support looks like, but on its impact on student learning and collaboration.

Induction programme

All staff take part in an induction programme. This induction covers school ethos, policies and procedures, including Child Protection, an introduction to our teaching and learning and pastoral models and IT.  Time is given to focus on general day to day practice and expectation by shadowing one of our Teacher or Education Support Staff mentors. Each new member of staff is assigned a school mentor that is intended to support any new staff through their transition throughout their first year.

Teacher Pathways

Our Teacher Pathways is a systematic, co-ordinated approach to recognizing and developing great teachers as they progress through their career stages.  It allows us to stay attuned to the chosen direction of our teachers.
