Work Experience

Supporting students into their lives beyond school has never been more important. For this reason we provide experiences and skills for several fields, allowing students to kick-start their careers with skills that most school leavers just won't have.

Wolseley Vocational Unit

The Right Choice - The Smart Choice

Getting into construction can be difficult; but in the Wolseley Skills Units at Mount Tamar School, we have many routes available within the Construction BTEC Qualifications. Delivered by the construction team in two bespoke workshops, Wolseley represents an excellent opportunity for our students to lay the foundations for a successful career in the construction industry.

Not only do you have the opportunity to have vocational learning which means work-related learning. You will be able to gain a lot of insights into the world of work in construction with many visits to different areas of the industry. All of our students get the practical skills, theory, professional training and workplace understanding you need to be ready for employment.

Granary Farm

On the outskirts of Liskeard, Mount Tamar has an acre of land and facilities within a 660 acre farm.

Students play a large role in the running of the farm. Tasks consisting of caring for the animals through to budgeting as well as gaining an understanding of processing food produce.

Business enterprise skills and community links will be developed through the development of a farm shop.

The farm project will involve experience in agricultural animal husbandry, small animal care, crop production, environmental education and horticulture. For the pupils that experience the farm and apply themselves to their learning they will be able to gain recognised accreditation.
