Welcome to Mount Tamar School

We are delighted to welcome you to our school.

Mount Tamar has a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, with about 110 pupils on roll from many different Local Authorities in the South West.

The school caters for young people aged 4 to 16 years who, for a variety of reasons, find it difficult to be successful within mainstream schools as full-time pupils. We specialise in supporting students with social and emotional difficulties, attachment and autism. The school manages a number of satellite ‘Aspire’ centres across Plymouth to meet individual students' academic and social needs. We also have a thriving residential area that caters for up to 15 youngsters. We strive to provide the very best educational experience so that all our students can reach their full potential, as they become responsible and proactive members of the community.

We are a friendly and caring community that firmly believes in treating each young person as an individual and providing them with the skills and tools they need to be a success. Mount Tamar School offers a quality-learning environment with all students being supported by a team of experienced trained staff dedicated to sustaining a school, where excellent teaching enables students to develop their abilities to the full.

The partnership with parents, carers and the wider community is critical in developing all of our young people’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual qualities and we are uncompromising in our pursuit of the best for all.

We aim to make education real, interesting, relevant and practical through an ethos of learning outside the classroom. Using outdoor education and forest schools, we seek to develop social and emotional aspects of learning. Making the right choice of school is one of the most difficult decisions. I hope that our website and a visit to the school will lead you to seek with us a true partnership in learning for your child.
