Welcome to -  The White List

If you are seeing this page without having selected it you have been 'whitelisted'. All staff can 'whitelist' and 'un-whitelist' pupils via the trafficlights. Please note that Mr Berry will not 'un-whitelist' pupils who he is not teaching!

The 'Whitelist' is being split into 'Departmental Whitelists' where each department will be able to maintain their own list of websites. When a pupil is 'whitelisted' they will only have access to the school web sites, and, if the member of staff feels that it is appropriate, the departmental web site list.

Whitelisting Update
Unfortunately some have pupils decided to 'experiment' with the filtering system and a decision was made to switch off the Internet and switch to a purely whitelist system where, unless a website is on the accepted list, it will not be accessible.
At the same time the details required to access the Internet were changed to:

  • Proxy:
    • proxyserver
  • Port:
    • 3128
  • No proxy for:
    • .mounttamar.org.uk, .mtsoc.org.uk

For a website to be added to the whitelist it needs to have been checked by a member of staff and the website URL emailed to Mr Berry. Departments should also be aware that they need to plan ahead and research any websites that they need to use as part of their teaching and learning work.

Future Developments
Departmental Whitelists will be set up so that departments can limit access to the Internet to only those sites that are required for their teaching and learning. This facility will be accessed via the Trafficlights software interface. Using this facility pupils will be able to access the Internet via one of four switchable levels:

  • Access to the Internet Switched Off
    • This level of access is only used as a last resort for those pupils who have continually broken the rules over use of the Internet.
    • Pupils will find that staff are unable to control their access via the Trafficlights and the pupil will ONLY be able to access the [Mount Tamar School] web services until Internet access is switched back on
  • Intranet Access Only
    • Pupils may access only the Mount Tamar School websites that are hosted internally. These websites are listed at the top of this page in the green box. A log in is required for each service.
  • Departmental Whitelist Access
    • Pupils may access the list of websites that the department has selected as being appropriate for the lesson / department
    • In addition the school hosted Intranet websites are also available
  • Full Whitelist Access
    • Pupils will be able to access the Intranet and the Internet via the filtering service provided by Mount Tamar School
