Introduction

• I have worked in a variety of jobs and schools. As a Marine Biologist, I had to choose another career as no one wanted to employ a seaweed expert! By the time I was 28 and decided to get a teaching qualification I had had 25 different jobs ranging from medical technician and door to door sales person to quality controller in Walkers crisps! I started teaching in Clacton on sea and soon realised that I didnt like teaching bright kids because I found them arrogant and lazy and I certainly didnt like Clacton!

• After 2 years I started to teach special needs. I really enjoyed the new Pre vocational courses which were just coming into play. I then got promoted to Head of Department (Special needs) and moved to Hastings where I spent a very happy 17 years. I then decided I liked helping students who were in trouble and took counselling and psycho therapy courses, this lead to my becoming a head of year in various schools in the area. I decided to take a job in a special school and really enjoyed it. In 2004 my partner moved to Plymouth and I followed after a few months. I was delighted to get the job of Assistant Head and still am!
