Introduction

Mount Tamar School encourages the use of 'Open Source' Software. Below there is a list of the software used at Mount Tamar School along with some 'how to' information.

We use a Gentoo [1] based linux installation for all the curriculum computers. Staff laptops are supplied with Microsoft Windows XP and the 'Open Source' and free software is installed as required. Some staff have dual-booted with Linux distributions such as OpenSuse [2] and Kbuntu [3].

Different desktops are available to pupils; KDE [4], Gnome [5] and XfCE [6] are the most popular ones used.

The software is primarily 'Open Source' with some free software added in for good measure.
